The Grove Cemetery Board recently updated the Rules and Regulations for Grove Cemetery to include:  “The Cemetery Board reserves the right to prohibit placement or to remove any headstone or monument deemed to be inappropriate or offensive due to size, shape or inscription.”

The purpose of this new section is assure that there are no headstones or monuments placed that would be inappropriate for children, families and others to view.  While the Board respects that everyone has a right to free expression, that expression can not infringe upon the rights of other visitors to the cemetery.  Examples of headstones or monuments that would not be allowed could include but are not limited to depictions of nudity, racially or ethnically offensive language or symbols, or depictions of illegal activity.

Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to make Grove Cemetery a peaceful and attractive final resting place for family, loved ones and friends.
